📐 Social Media Image Resizer

Social Media Image Resizer

Resize one image to a documented social-platform size. Pick the target, upload a PNG or JPG, and download a single PNG at the exact pixel dimensions the platform expects.

For: website owners, creators, marketers and developers posting images to LinkedIn, X (Twitter) and YouTube. · How it works: pick a target → upload → the image is automatically adjusted for the selected platform → download.

1. Pick a target

Each size is sourced from the platform's own help center or developer documentation.

2. Upload & resize

What does this tool do?

It takes one image and produces a single PNG sized to the exact pixel dimensions of a documented social-platform target. The generator automatically adjusts the crop for the selected platform — the source is scaled to fill the target frame and the spill is trimmed with a small rule-of-thirds bias so the subject is more likely to stay in frame. A Keep Full Image option preserves the entire source as a letterboxed PNG, and an Adjust Crop editor lets you pick the exact region yourself.

Who is it for?

  • Website owners sharing announcements on LinkedIn or X (Twitter).
  • Creators and marketers posting consistent feed imagery across multiple platforms.
  • Developers building CMS integrations or scheduled post tooling that need predictable output sizes.
  • YouTube creators producing channel art and video thumbnails at the platform's documented sizes.

Quick Answer

The Social Media Image Resizer takes one PNG or JPG and outputs a single PNG sized exactly to one of four documented platform targets: LinkedIn square 1080×1080, LinkedIn landscape share 1200×627, X (Twitter) summary card 1200×628, or YouTube video thumbnail 1280×720. The source is automatically adjusted to fit the target — with optional Keep Full Image (letterboxed padding) and Adjust Crop (manual region picker) for cases where the automatic crop is not quite right.

Requirements

Supported input
PNG or JPG, up to 10 MB. Any aspect ratio; the source is automatically adjusted to fit the target, or use Keep Full Image / Adjust Crop.
Output format
Single PNG file at the exact pixel dimensions of the chosen target.
Available targets
LinkedIn square 1080×1080, LinkedIn landscape 1200×627, X summary card 1200×628, YouTube thumbnail 1280×720.

Supported sizes

Every size is sourced from the platform's own help center or developer documentation. The source for each row is a single citation, not an SEO roundup.

Platform Use case Size Source
LinkedIn Square image shown in feed posts. 1080 × 1080 LinkedIn Help — Image requirements for LinkedIn shares
LinkedIn Landscape image attached to a shared link. 1200 × 627 LinkedIn Help — Image requirements for LinkedIn shares
X Link-preview card shown next to a tweet that contains a URL. 1200 × 628 X Developer Docs — Cards: Summary Card with Large Image
YouTube Custom thumbnail shown next to a YouTube video. 1280 × 720 Google Help — YouTube: Add a thumbnail to your video

OG image vs social media resizer

An OG image is the preview card a social platform shows when somebody shares a link to your page. It comes from the Open Graph protocol and is set with an og:image meta tag. The 1200 by 630 size is the widely accepted baseline. A social media resizer produces a feed-post image at the platform's documented pixel dimensions — a LinkedIn square, an X card, or a YouTube thumbnail. The two answer different questions: the OG image is for share-card previews, the resizer is for posts your audience actually sees in the feed. Use the OG Image Generator for share previews, and this resizer for feed posts.

Common social image mistakes

Most upload issues come from the wrong aspect ratio, an oversize file, or a low-resolution source being stretched past its native size. The items below cover what comes up most often.

  • Uploading the wrong aspect ratio. LinkedIn trims square posts on the timeline, X (Twitter) clips tall images to its 2 to 1 preview, and YouTube letterboxes non 16:9 thumbnails into a black frame. Match the documented dimensions and your image fills the frame end to end.
  • Saving the file above the platform limit. LinkedIn caps uploads at 5 MB, X at 5 MB and YouTube at 2 MB. The generator writes an optimised PNG that comfortably sits inside all three limits for typical source images, but a very high-detail source can still exceed them. Flatten colours or compress the source before re-running if the platform rejects the upload.
  • Upscaling a small source to a large target. The generator cannot invent detail that is not in the source. A 600 by 600 image stretched to 1280 by 720 for a YouTube thumbnail will look soft no matter how it was processed. Pick the smallest target that matches the platform instead.
  • Reusing the Open Graph preview for a feed post. The OG Image Generator produces a 1200 by 630 link-share preview with a white letterbox. Feed posts on LinkedIn, X and YouTube are displayed at a different aspect ratio and the letterbox would show through. Use this resizer for feed posts; use the OG Image Generator for the og:image meta tag.
